Director of Phoenix Australia, Professor David Forbes was honoured to have His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales attend the welcome reception of the international roundtable on disaster recovery in Sydney.
The roundtable, Psychological Recovery following Community Disaster: An International Collaboration, is a joint initiative of The Prince’s Charities Australia, the coordinating presence for The Prince of Wales’ charitable endeavours in Australia, and Phoenix Australia. It will develop an internationally agreed protocol to address the mental health impact of disasters and evaluate the effectiveness of the recommended intervention.
The Prince met and spoke with roundtable participants, as well as Defence members, emergency services personnel, and other first responders to disaster situations.
Chairman of The Prince’s Charities Australia, Tony Beddison AO, said “His Royal Highness’ attendance shows the significance of this roundtable’s objective – a ground-breaking development in disaster relief around the world – and is also a mark of his strong support for The Prince’s Charities Australia”.
Professor David Forbes said that, “We are honoured to have His Royal Highness engaged in the roundtable proceedings and most grateful to the Prince’s Charities Australia for their support.”
Other supporters of the roundtable are Department of Health, the University of Melbourne, Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Department of Defence, RSL Victoria, RSL Queensland, and Macquarie Group.
The roundtable continues for a second day in Sydney today.
